2023 Year in Review: Our Top Achievements

 

AMAC increased membership by 44% through new members and renewals.
Nearly 4,000 individuals participated in AMAC’s events throughout the year.
AMAC launched a new member portal to provide improved navigation and expanded functionality for AMAC members.
AMAC hired Andre Titus as the Senior Manager of Programs & Operations.
The AMAC Government Affairs Committee submitted comments on behalf of AMAC members for H.R. 3935, the Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act, a bill to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and aviation safety and infrastructure programs for the next five years.
The FAA invited AMAC to be a member of its Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Detection and Mitigation Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC). ARC members help the FAA make recommendations on how to integrate counter-UAS technologies across the U.S. while preserving the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System. AMAC member, Ernest Huffman of the North Central Texas Council of Governments, represented AMAC in the FAA UAS ARC Committee.
Jeanette D. Saunders, AMAC Vice President of Education & Advisory Services, was selected to represent AMAC as a Transportation Research Board (TRB) Aviation Administration and Policy Committee member. The committee is concerned with intergovernmental and cooperative aspects of administration and policy as it relates to the operation and development of the aviation industry, including governance participation and stakeholder involvement.
AMAC hired Ramon Lo as the Director of Membership & Industry Engagement.
AMAC issued a statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s attempts to remove and end business supplier diversity and workplace diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
Eboni Wimbush, AMAC President & CEO, was appointed to serve on the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Advisory Committee on Transportation Equity (ACTE). Eboni is among ACTE’s 24 leading experts who will advise DOT Secretary Buttigieg on issues related to civil rights, job access expansion and economic opportunity in transportation for all communities. ACTE is integral to implementing the DOT Equity Action and Strategic Plan.
The AMAC Government Affairs Committee was successful in having key provisions that it lobbied for included in the approved H.R. 3935, the Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act.
Three interns completed the AMAC Builds Careers program, attended the 38th Annual AMAC Airport Business Diversity Conference and presented their internship experience to the AMAC Aviation Professional Development Committee leadership and members. AMAC Members actively supported the program by creating marketing videos (Demetria Wideman of ReachTV) and represented AMAC at the Texas Southern University Fall Career Fair (Michael Scott of Ricondo).
The AMAC Foundation awarded $130,000 in scholarships to 61 students pursuing aviation careers and launched the Ronald J. Gomes Scholarship Fund.
AMAC was contracted as the research agency by the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) of the Transportation Research Board, a program unit of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, to lead the nearly $800,000 research project ACRP 06-09: Equitable Workforce Outcomes: A Study of Women and Minority Representation at Airports.
Indhira Figuereo Blaney, Senior Vice President and National Aviation Market Leader for WSP USA, joins the AMAC Board of Directors as the Northeast Regional Director.

 

Special Recognition: The AMAC Board of Directors and the National Office worked in collaboration to develop the 2024–2027 AMAC Strategic Plan, which was approved by the Board and is slated to be published in Early 2024.
